The Weight of Outlasting

Suicide is a two-sided coin. There are those who leave the world behind, and those who have to endure a world without that friend, that loved one.

When someone takes their life, a void is left in the lives of those who cherished them. But what happens when a person loses more than one friend to their inner demons?

I connected with my brother about this issue, as he has felt the horrors of suicide countless times throughout his life. Each time someone he loved wasn’t there anymore, he said he felt a metaphysical chain forming, tying him down and starting to drag him to the same mental state that claimed so many lives he once cherished.

But ultimately he flipped the script on this chain and broke free of it. Because giving in - not staying with us - isn’t the answer. And the only way to honor the lives of those lost is to keep going forward.
