The Weight of Derealization

There is an unseen plague afflicting many, if not most, people these days. It is an evil I have heard spoken of in multiple levels of severity.

Anxiety.

The weight of the world can be too cumbersome to bear, and thus triggers a neurological response. But not every individual’s anxiety aligns with the dictionary definition. For some, there are panic attacks; for others, anxiety morphs into something so encompassing it removes one from reality.

I connected with Candice about her struggle with derealization disorder triggered by anxiety. I was drawn to the idea of representing her mental health burden with soft focus, reflections, and a loss of sight.

I believe this ‘The Weight’ set is storied, dynamic, and very representative of how losing grip of reality, and one’s own place in it, can feel.
