The Weight of Suppression
Relationships. Partnerships. Marriage.
These connections with other humans are topics of joy, but also of toxicity and mental burden. And sometimes abuse.
And when a marriage becomes something one gives oneself to entirely, it’s easy to get lost. To become a lesser version of oneself to appease the fallacy of a happy household. The pain weighs heavy behind closed doors when one is most in the dark.
This piece is designed to bring to light the suppression Soki underwent in her previous marriage as a Muslim wife. Her wings were clipped, and she barely felt like she had control of her betterment. She underwent abuse which made her feel like a shell of herself.
Thus it is amazing to see the woman she is today: a bright, thriving, cheerful human.
This entry in The Weight series is meant to call to those in the shadow of a toxic partner. A shout into the dark to spread your wings and break free. Because your fire should never be extinguished.
