The Weight of Dialectics

Mental health is often compartmentalized, but not looked at as a whole. Depression. Anxiety. Trauma. ADHD. These are all diagnoses which are important, but what about those still seeking the truth to their mind?

This entry in The Weight focuses on that dialogue. The mind is built in duality. Left brain and right brain. Creativity and productivity. Tragedy and comedy. We see this duality of the consciousness represented in so many works. In reality, it can be difficult to process these contrasting aspects.

I connected with my friend Yssa for this piece, and set out to represent their journey in mental discovery through art. For them, there are colors and there is darkness. Childhood whimsy and understanding clashing with the unknown and the terrifying.

And this way of understanding the differential between the left and right brain, the artistic and the serious, may be the most human way to recognize what mental health is.
