The Weight of Eating Disorders

At a time when body image is so heavily scrutinized by corporations and media for the purpose of profiting off of shame, eating disorders are far more common than they should be.

From anorexia to bulimia and everything in between, people struggle with accepting their bodies and try rash things to try and correct those feelings. Though these aforementioned maladies are diagnosable, not every eating disorder fits neatly into a category. For some, eating disorders are byproducts or anxiety and depression. When one feels as low as they can, the simple answer the mind will wander toward is to gain some sense of control over any aspect of life. And what’s easier to mold and control than one’s own body?

Eating disorders can be heavily dangerous because they not only gnaw at the mind, but at the body keeping you on this Earth. And for some, this realization never comes until they are fully consumed.
